Shackleton Map

Tucked along Highway 32 in west-central Saskatchewan, Shackleton sits approximately 81 kilometres northwest of Swift Current, within the bounds of the Rural Municipality of Miry Creek No. 229. The community occupies a modest land area of 0.72 square kilometres, giving it a population density of roughly 6.9 persons per square kilometre based on the most recent census figures.

Shackleton was once incorporated as a village, but on December 31, 2013, it was restructured as a special service area under the administration of the Rural Municipality of Miry Creek No. 229, marking a significant change in its local governance. Its population has declined considerably in recent years – the 2021 Census recorded just 5 residents living in 4 of the community’s 6 private dwellings, representing a drop of 50 percent from the 10 residents counted during the 2016 Census. That combination of a small footprint and a shrinking population makes Shackleton one of Saskatchewan’s quieter rural communities, reflective of the broader demographic shifts seen across the province’s smaller prairie settlements.
