Nestled in central Saskatchewan along Highway 7, the village of Vanscoy sits approximately 29 kilometres southwest of Saskatoon, within the Rural Municipality of Vanscoy No. 345 and Census Division No. 12. The surrounding landscape includes Rice Lake to the west, Goose Lake to the north, and Pike Lake along with Pike Lake Provincial Park to the east. In 2019, Highway 7 was rerouted to bypass the village to the north, as part of a 31-kilometre twinned highway section running between Delisle and Saskatoon. Vanscoy first incorporated as a village on June 17, 1919, and covers a land area of 2.47 km². The 2021 Census recorded a population of 477 residents living in 193 of the village’s 206 private dwellings, reflecting a 3.2% increase from the 462 residents counted in 2016, which was itself an 18.4% jump from the 377 residents recorded in 2011.
One of the most significant economic contributors near Vanscoy is Agrium Vanscoy Potash Operations, which produces approximately 1,790,000 metric tonnes of potash annually. Community amenities within the village include a circle hall, ice rink, curling rink, and ball diamond. For outdoor recreation, Pike Lake Provincial Park lies about 16 kilometres to the southeast and offers hiking trails, boating, and a marsh land conservation area. The Otapasoo Trails Recreation Site is also accessible within roughly 19 kilometres of the village. Vanscoy School serves students from Kindergarten through Grade 8, after which students typically continue their education in nearby Delisle for Grades 9 to 12.
